Support Urgently Needed

In Baja California Sur, Mexico

We, Lasse and Eva, have worked as volunteers with the organisation 1000 peacewomen across the Globe (www.1000peacewomen.org) for several years. This project had nominated one thousand women from all over the world to collectively receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The women did not get the prize, mind you, they were in position 5 out of 200. But through this work, a worldwide network has been established. And, with great enthusiasm for this project, Lasse and I made it our task to show the 1000 Peace Women exhibition in as many countries as possible. Wherever we were, we worked together with the peacewomen of the respective countries, which gave them the oportunity to reach out to the public. Many interesting and necessary events were held. – Our work was rewarded by the enthusiasm of the peacewomen, getting to know their motivation and their valuable work, which, through the exhibition, got some recognition by the public and the authorities.

During our exhibition tour in Mexico in 2010, we were invited by the women’s agricultural cooperative, Cooperativa Mujeres Unidas Sudcalifornianas, from San José del Cabo in Baja California Sur, Mexico. We were given a most honorable and generous reception. A full 4-day program introduced us to their work and the region they live in. We were deeply impressed by the top quality of their organically grown products. For us it was both, learning about this valuable project and, thankfully, enjoying hospitality at its best!

In return for their cordial and informative hospitality, we now would like to give these women who lost everything due to hurricane Lidia our full support. Lidia hit the area in full force in the beginning of September 2017. This hurricane happened parallel to hurricane Harvey, except that the world did not hear anything about the disaster in Baja California Sur.

Roads, houses, homesteads and agricultural land were destroyed to such a massive extent that at the moment the area cannot even be reached by cars which could bring material to help clean up the devastated land. As Mexico has also been hit very badly by the most recent earthquake, the government’s attention is directed to dealing with this gigantic disaster and Baja California is left to its own devices.

Please do contribute whatever you see fit, in order to help the women’s cooperative recuperate their land and help residents go back to their homesteads and livelihoods!

In Baja California Sur, Mexiko

wird Ihre Unterstützung dringendst gebraucht

Zur selben Zeit, als in Texas, USA, der Hurrikan Harvey wütete, war in Baja California Sur, Mexiko der Hurrikan Lidia unterwegs und richtete an der Spitze im Süden verherende Schäden an. Die Bilder davon sind mit jenen von Texas vergleichbar. Doch kann diese Gegend in Mexiko nicht mit nationaler Hilfe rechnen. Die Menschen sind mehr oder weniger sich selbst überlassen, um die enorm geschädigte Gegend wieder herzustellen. Dazu braucht es viel Zeit und ebensoviel Geld.

Aus einem ganz bestimmten Grund möchten wir, Eva und Lasse, diese Gegend unterstützen: Im Zusammenhang mit unserer Ausstellungsreise der 1000 Friedens-Frauen Weltweit (www.1000peaceowmen.org) in Mexiko (viele von euch kennen unsere damalige Aktivität), wurden wir von einer landwirtschaftlichen Frauen Cooperativa, Cooperativa Mujeres Unidas Sudcalififornianas, nach Baja California eingeladen. Wir konnten es einrichten, die Frauen zwischen zwei Ausstellungen zu besuchen. Wir wurden überaus herzlich empfangen und während eines 4 Tage dauernden Programms, wurde uns die vielfältige, biologische Landwirtschaft der Frauen, sowie die wunderschöne Gegend von Baja California vor Augen geführt. Podiumsgespräche mit der mexikanischen Landwirschaftsministerin, so wie kulturelle Darbietungen waren Teil des kompakten Programms. – Wir waren überaus beeindruckt von den landwirtschaftlichen Produkten, welche alle in 1A Qualität präsentiert wurden.

Und jetzt, nach dem Hurrikan welcher, neben Harvey, von der Welt gar nicht wahrgenommen wurde, ist das fruchtbare Land verwüstet, viele Häuser mit grossen Schäden, die einzige Zufahrtstrasse mit tiefen Löchern versehen und gar nicht befahrbar. Somit ist es auch schwierig, Hilfsgüter in die Gegend zu bringen. Aus diesen Gründen möchten wir uns für die damalige, grosszügige Gastfreundschaft erkenntlich zeigen und mit diesem Spendenaufruf hoffentlich doch eine stattliche Summe zusammenbringen.

Zum Dank werden wir eine Dokumentation für euch anfertigen, welche den Fortschritt des Wiederaufbaus in Wort und Bildern zeigen wird und auch vermerken, wofür das Spendengeld eingesetzt wurde.
