Story
This time last year my 5 week old baby was rushed to Forth Valley Royal Hospital with a suspected chest infection. Jamie was screaming, refusing to feed or sleep with a high fever of 39°
I had no idea what was wrong and it took 24hours to begin to unravel what had caused Jamie to be so ill.
In the time it took for a diagnosis of septacemia, severe kidney infection and chest infection, the nurses on the ward were fantastic.
They performed numerous tests and supported me throughout 24hours a day. When Jamie was having awful things like lumbar punctures, cannulas, feeding tubes or needles into his kidneys the nurses would encourage me to go for a coffee so I wouldn't have to witness Jamie in pain. As hard as it was not to be in the same room I am so grateful for their compassion and thoughtfulness.
Whenever Jamie returned to his room or I was allowed back in he was always in the arms of the nurses calming him with cuddles and gentle wispers. It was a huge comfort to me .
Jamie was kept in for 7 days , and while it was a struggle on family life (I have an older son too who I missed dearly whilst staying at the hospital) the staff were very accommodating and supportive.
I wish to raise money to provide the ward with new books and toys for visiting siblings and patients to enjoy. I would also like to try and raise some money to provide a coffee machine for the parents room/staff room. I am running a 5k around the helix in November and would love your sponsorship.
Jamie has since made a full recovery and is fighting fit with no lasting complications. But I am one of the lucky ones , there are many people who frequently have to stay in the Children's ward and i would like to know the kids have some nice toys to play with.
Thanks for taking the time to read this
