Story
I'm fundraising for the Phoenix Rehabilitation team. This is the Stroke Rehabilitation team at St. Peter’s Hospital that looked after my mum from ED through to ICU and to the wards until she was ready to be discharged.
In December 2025 my mum had a brain-stem stroke. This was due to a meningioma (non cancerous brain tumour) pressing on the blood supply for the brain stem.
Things we all take for granted - speech, swallowing, movement, breathing, sleep rhythms, and more, required more focus & energy. Despite my mum, my dad, and myself coming from a healthcare background, the early weeks were difficult. The Phoenix team helped us through each step.
In August I will be on the start line for my first Ironman - 3.8km swimming, 180km cycling, and 42.2km running. I signed up to a challenge that seemed as mammoth to me as the rehab my mum faced after her stroke. In the process I'd like to see if I can help fundraise for the Stroke Unit that helped my mum.
If you can, please help me raise money to show appreciation to this wonderful team so that they can help other patients & family as they have done for mine. Any & all donations are appreciated.
