    Story

From June to August I will be in Kenya, volunteering at Malia Children's Home in the Mua Hills near Nairobi for 3 weeks, and then at Kijiji Mission in Nakuru for 2 weeks.

Malia Children's Home is an orphanage for young children, run by the organisation CIVS. This is a home for destitute children from all over Kenya, who are in need of a home and support. As a volunteer, I will live with a host family and will help with preparing the children for school and feeding them, and helping with farming projects at the Home. (Scroll down the CIVS page linked here to find Malia Children's Home and information)

Kijiji Mission Nakuru, or Springs of Hope Foundation, is a home for vulnerable young mothers, where they learn tailoring, business and collaboration skills to help them become self sufficient for their families. As a volunteer, I will be able to teach English and computer skills to the students, play with the children, or help in the office with grant proposals and children's profiles. You can see more on the website.

    How your donation will help:

If I reach my goal of £700, 50% of your donation will go to Malia Children's Home, and 50% to Kijiji Mission. I need at least £75 to donate to my stay at Kijiji Mission, so that they do not end up out of pocket, and £220 to donate to Malia Children's Home for the same reason.

P.S. If you would like to donate (that would be fantastic!), but be aware that there is a fee of 1.45% for paying via Paypal.

Hello! I am a gap year student going on to do Biology. Caring for people has always been important to me; I have volunteered at various schools and care homes in England. Ever since I went to Zambia to teach at a school, I have been more impassioned about volunteering abroad.
