In July 2018, we are going on a trip to Dharamasla in Northern India with Global Action where we will be part of a poverty reduction programme. During our time in India, we’ll be working very closely with the Tong-Len organisation who have built a primary school for refugees and aim to keep children in education before they enrol in government schooling.
Part of our expedition will include helping to build a school hostel where 12-18 year old children will be able to stay to help avoid the treacherous journeys some school children must make. Another charity we’ll be supporting during our trip is the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV). The TCV has become a thriving educational community for Tibetan children in exile. After 54 successful years, they now have over 16,000 children under their care. However, there is still much more work to do.
Many children have to walk at least 30km a day across the Himalayas just to get to school and back. In recognition of this, we have challenged ourselves to walk a total of 71km (44 miles) over the course of 2-3 days around the Cotswolds. This will give us an insight into how far some of the children we’ll be working with travel on a daily basis just to go to school. As well as this, next summer we will be enduring a 3 day trek across the Himalayas through high altitudes and extreme weather conditions.
As part of this trip we have been challenged to raise our own funds, so the donations will go to the expenses of the trip. We’re hoping you can find a little something to allow us to support Tong-Len and TCV for the inspiring work they do for education in India. No donation is too small!
