Story
On the 13th of November 2022, at a Scotland vs. New Zealand rugby match at Murrayfield - my Mum took unwell very suddenly... and within a matter of hours, had been diagnosed with two Stage 4 Glioblastoma (GBM) brain tumours.
We had been made aware after Mums diagnosis that her days would be limited, with life expectancy to be somewhere in the 3-4 month range for this disease.
As Mum had no prior ill health or symptoms before taking unwell - this came as a huge blow for us all as a family. The support we got from our MacMillian nurse was invaluable - guiding us on how best to support Mum with her disease, whilst making most of the time we had left with Mum.
We were able to care for Mum at home for around 12 weeks, until it was more comfortable for her to move into a dedicated MacMillian support unit.
Sadly, just 14 weeks after the disease presenting itself - Mum passed away peacefully in Cornhill MacMillian Cancer Centre, Perth - on the 18th of February 2023.
I am running Edinburgh Marathon on the 28th of May 2023, to raise money for MacMillian in my Mums memory. I cannot emphasise how much it means to me the support MacMillian provided my Mum… and sadly huge amounts of families in the UK every year – so I would be grateful for any donations towards this cause very close to my heart.

Thank you for your support,

One of my Mums wishes was that we also shared our journey, to help any other families navigating this horrible disease. She didn’t feel it should be a taboo subject; so if I can ever support any other families going through this journey, have any questions, etc. – I would be happy to talk and point you in the direction for support.
