Story
I have a beautiful 6 months old puppy I named Rocco. He is my german x staffy and like most puppies is very playful, curious and loves exploring. Now, Rocco can just about play with everything and eat anything and I wouldn't alter his personality at all even if I had the choice however as a result Rocco ate a penny and here we are.
Me being the mum I am, I follow and watch Rocco from point A to B, especially considering he is hardly ever up to any good. One minute he is eating grass next minute he is peeing everywhere apart from his training pad. Rocco eats anything from his own poo, my food, his food, my rabbits food, to chewing on my clothes, shoes, and unfortunately he happened to eat from the trash and swallowed a penny in the process. I cant come to terms how or why but my best guess would be because it was covered in or smelt like food, as an immediate reaction as I rushed to him I attempt to open his mouth hoping maybe he'd spit it out, which wasn't the case.
I didn't act on it straight away as he seemed perfectly fine, I however did my research and Rocco wasn't displaying any of the affects I had read about; So I proceeded with watching out for this penny when Rocco done his business. It was only until the next day when Rocco refused to eat which is highly unusual and I had no luck finding this penny in Roccos' faeces. I then took Rocco to the vet.
Long story short, the new was worse than I thought I was told that pennies were a whole lot more dangerous than I assumed, an X-ray was done and what was shown was confirmation of what I already knew and Rocco needed to undergo surgery to remove the penny from his' intestine. It was a feeling where you know something is expected but still comes as a surprise when you hear it come out of someones' mouth; hence why the estimate of 1.5k was the last thing on my mind at that current time and now that Rocco is very much happy and well, the vet bill is all that's on my mind and I haven't exactly got the largest circle of family. Friends have helped in every way possible, and your help would mean just as much. EVERY little counts!
Thank you!! xo
