Story

Comradeship, Endurance & Endeavour' is the ethos underpinning those who fought in the Falklands War in 1982. It is the same year that I started my military career and I now proudly cycle with a group of veterans of that War called the 'Falklands Forty'. They formed in recognition to the fortieth anniversary of that campaign and now ride together with friends, family and supporters, under the same ethos.

Through the ethos these veterans (aged 60 plus) organise and promote cycling as a means to keeping in touch, staying fit & healthy in their advancing years. But, sadly it is for more, much more than that, as for some, still lingering in their thoughts are the traumas and horrific events that all Wars inevitably bring you to face. Cycling as a group seems to temporarily quieten those thoughts.

The group is wholly self-funded and managed by its members, whom are encouraged to plan routes, organise events, muck in and generally be involved. This crowdfund is to support the group's next big ride for May 2024 where twenty-one of them (17 veterans & 4 friends) , will undertake the monumentous Lands End to John o Groats Cycle challenge (approximately a 1000 miles).

These three are smiling with me (Laurence centre) and I have set the page up for them, but please donate to make all twenty-one achieve and smile. Additionally, the dreaded Parkinson's disease has befell the group and so half the monies collected will go support a related charity.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this page. All support welcome.......
