Story

I have got to know the eldest girl in a family whose father died in a car crash late last year. Since then she has had to support her blind mother, her ailing grandma, and her ten year old little brother. I am keeping her name private at her own request but shall call her Miss Jobe.

I have started to fund Miss Jobe.'s education so that her English can improve. I intend funding efforts to provide two further terms in the Secondary School she attends; and to provide funding for food. Her family situation means that in Gambia they are stigmatised as "poor" and people will not help them when they have troubles. I have funded emergency medical assistance when needed for them, but now I need help to be able to provide them with an on-going level of basic support. They recently had a problem with their landlord as they had not had the money to pay any rent for five months. I intervened at the last moment and saved this family from homelessness, but ongoing I hope to gain aid to cover their accommodation costs.

Miss Jobe. would like to see her family safe and secure, finish her education, and then be able to find herself work so that she can provide for herself and her family.

All funding efforts for the Jobe family will be immediately used to provide emergency relief and ongoing financial backup which is certainly needed as they have no income at all, and their level of vulnerability is very high. What makes this issue so pertinent is the bravery of Miss Jobe. who soldiers on with no help whatsoever in the face of uncertain odds on a daily basis.

I ask that together we can make a difference for this brave soul and her family. I intend to keep supporting this family as decent honest people who through no fault of their own encounter hard times should always be helped.
