Story

Please help us raise funds for the eleven children from Fareham Rhinos Tchoukball Club whose talent has been rewarded by being selected for the Tchoukball UK the Under 15 and Under 18 Boys and the Under 15 Girls Squads at the European Tchoukball Championships Championships in Castellanza, Milan, Italy in July 2018. These Championships are a fantastic opportunity to test the talent of these fine young players. It will provide them with invaluable experience of playing the elite of Europe to develop their skill and proudly represent their nation.

Tchoukball is self-funding and the young players will be required to find funding for their own kit, tournament fees, flights and accommodation. The total cost will be in the region of £600 per participant. This Just Giving page has been set up with the aim of paying for the tournament fees.

Thank you from Theo J, Harvey and Finley M, Abbie E, Ryan W, Megan H, Sam B, Alex and Lewis W, Theo S and Summer S.

Tchoukball is the fastest handball sport in the world with unique characteristics. It is usually played with a ball ranging from a circumference of 54 cm to 60 cm on an indoor court measuring 27 metres by 16 metres. At each end there is a 'frame' (a device similar to a trampoline, off which the ball bounces) which measures one square metre and a semicircular D-shaped forbidden zone measuring three metres in radius. Each team can score at both ends of the court, and comprises 12 players, of whom 7 may be on the court at any one time. In order to score a point, the ball must be thrown by an attacking player, rebound off the frame and bounce outside the 'D' without being caught by the defending team. Physical contact is prohibited, and defenders may not attempt to intercept the attacking team's passes. Players may take three steps with the ball, hold the ball for a maximum of three seconds, and teams may not pass the ball more than three times before shooting at the frame.

Tchoukball is a team sport developed in the 1970s by Swiss biologist Dr Hermann Brandt. Dr Brandt was concerned about the number of injuries in sport at the time and as part of an educational study he wanted to create a sport that reduced injuries, was not aggressive between players and enabled people of all shapes, sizes, genders, cultures, and backgrounds to play together.

Tchoukball has become an international sport, played in 44 countries including Brazil, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, India, Italy, Spain, Japan, Macau, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United States. It is governed by the Féderation Internationale de Tchoukball (FITB, founded in 1971).

Fareham Tchoukball Club is continually open to new players of all ages and ability. If you are interested in coming to have a look, watch a game or even take part, sessions are held regularly at Fareham Academy School on Tuesday evenings between 8.00pm and 9.00pm.
