About Our Farfield Mill

Nestling between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, and in the shadow of the glorious Howgill fells, Farfield Mill provides access to high-quality art and crafts as well as the complete history of weaving.

A Community of Artists and Crafts People

It is 25 years since the Mill was rescued from destruction and turned into a thriving community of crafts people and artists including weavers, painters, quilters and jewellers. There are now 24 separate artists and craft studios where you can watch the artists and weavers working.

A Place to Inspire and Amaze

The history of weaving is demonstrated through the operation of the original power looms and the demonstrations of hand weaving. The mill also contains several large galleries with ever changing artists exhibitions.

New trustees were appointed in January and want to turn the Preservation Trust into a co-operative Community Benefit Society. This would allow the community to become member owners and invest in Farfield Mill’s potential

Why your gift is needed today

Funds from this will not come on stream before April 2018. In the meantime we need £25,000 to carry out essential repairs and ensure we can carry on.

Please give generously

Your gift, however large or small, will help us ensure that our community, which is the life of the mill , can continue to inspire and delight all who have a passion for arts and crafts.

Without your help the mill will be lost forever.

I would be heart broken if this Mill ever closed. I hope you reach your target.

I've been popping in to the Mill for years - it is one of my favourite places, and has such a calm and friendly atmosphere. I really hope it continues to inspire for years to come.
