Dear Friends, I have battled a chronic illness for over 12yrs diagnosed with M.E. at the age of 17. A teenager trapped in a body full of pain, bed bound for 4 years, then in a wheelchair, which I still rely on. I endured years of suffering, I lost so much, my job, friends, my own independence. I lost the person I was. For over a decade I have tried so many treatments without success. My mum gave up work 12yrs ago to care for me. Entirely on her own she has paid for private treatments, researched for hours, taking me to hundreds of doctors. In October 2015 I discovered I had been misdiagnosed. My bloods from Germany (ArminLabs) revealed I had Chronic Lyme Disease. The NHS can offer no help, so we travelled to Washington DC to meet a world leading Lyme specialist, Dr Jemsek. He reassured me it was possible to get into remission and 80% well, but that I would never fully recover as Lyme disease is in my heart and brain. This intensive treatment has been extremely tough, leaving me mainly housebound, unable to live a normal life. I suffer with extreme fatigue, pressure headaches, dizziness, nausea, painful weak muscles, brain fog, IBS. Without treatment, my symptoms will become worse. Devastatingly, my mum also has Lyme disease and is in treatment whilst supporting me. Unable to work for 12yrs relying solely on my mum for financial support has been hard. My treatment over the last 6months has totalled £15,000 for appointments, medications, IV's, regular blood testing. I am a very private person, but have shared my story with other sufferers to help in their recovery. However, I have realised I too need help, as my symptoms have become a lot worse. I'm scared about the future without continuing this vital treatment. I hope to raise money to help towards my next appointment with Dr Jemsek (Dec).
