Story

2020 we woke up to blue lights flashing, looking out the window we were shocked to see my Dad walking towards the ambulance which is outside our home, this was on the 28/03/2020 at 1.30am.

Today it’s been almost 4 weeks, and we are in absolute devastation. Dad is one of COVID-19s victims but he is still fighting strong. We have been unable to do anything. We miss him so much, and we feel helpless as we can't help him fight this battle.

We took a call from Intensive Care at Bristol Royal Infirmary and they suggested FaceTiming my Dad as this would potentially increase his brain activity. They hoped a familiar voice would stimulate a response in his rehabilitation.

As heartbreaking as it was, it was incredible for us to see our Dad as it has been a heartwrenching four weeks. My mum, his wife has never spent more than four nights apart from her husband in over 50 years. It gave her great strength when seeing his face again on FaceTime. Despite only starting this FaceTime call a week ago, we have seen small but hopeful improvements which can give us the strength to carry on.

We are privileged to have such things like Facetime, but there are many that don’t. At a time where we have no physical contact, or even that voice we miss so very much, having an iPad so that we could see loved ones would mean so much.

Our story continues and my Dad is still fighting the fight of his life, we want to help our ICU departments in getting iPads into the units to give families hope and patients the determination again.

We can’t sit side by side, hold their hands, or even deliver a much needed I LOVE YOU, but an iPad and a FaceTime could give a superb alternative.

Thank you for listening, any donation would be appreciated to help us on our journey in delivering iPads to the ICU departments.

Stay home, stay safe.
