Funded on Monday, 1st July 2019

    Story

My name is Faye, and I have been selected by Kent Scouts to be part of the UK Contingent for the 24th World Scout Jamboree taking place in the summer of 2019 at the Summit Bechtel National Scout Reserve in West Virginia USA.

I have been part of the scouting movement since I was 6 and hoped that one day I might be lucky enough to take part in a World Jamboree. My local scout group is helping me with funding, but I need to raise an additional £2945 by May 2019.

A significant portion of the fee from each UK scout will assist scouts from developing countries to attend the Jamboree and have the same experience as any other scout from across the globe, supporting the theme of the Jamboree which is “Unlock a New World”. I am looking forward to meeting some of the 45,000 scouts from nearly every country in the world, sharing experiences with them and learning about life and scouting in their countries.

Taking part in the Jamboree will help me develop and work towards becoming a young leader, a role that will in turn enable me to help other young people fulfil their potential and help the local community.

Fundraising is all part of the experience, to give me a sense of independence and responsibility. I have been lucky to have had so much support from friends, family and neighbours and am over half way to reaching my target. This has been from hosting stalls at 5 fetes, helping set up at a fete, selling my hand crafted cards, painted glassware, homegrown plants and herbs, school tombola and generous pledges.

My next big event is walking the 95 mile Jurassic Coast path (more like 115 miles to get back to our different bases!) The walk starts at Great Harry Rocks in Dorset and finishes at Exmouth in East Devon. It will be a very challenging terrain.

It would be great if anyone reading this could consider donating a small amount – it does not matter how little, because it will help me reach my target to attend the Jamboree.

I completed my Jurassic Coast Walk, and hiked around 107 miles. It was hard work, lots of steep hills and aching legs - but there were some amazing views and places I would never have seen if I hadn't pushed myself. It is an experience I will always remember. The Quiz night was a fun evening and I was so lucky to have so many friends and family supporting me on the night and helping me organise the event. I am now on the final stretch of my fundraising. I hope to have some hand made Christmas cards and gifts to sell. Thank you, Faye
