Story
Hey! I'm Fearaid (fyer-itch) and I am a 24 year old transgender man seeking gender affirming healthcare.
I grew up all over the UK and Spain but my family are from Wales and I spent my formative years in the north of Scotland. I now live alone in the north of England where I am a student. As you may be aware transgender care and rights generally in the UK are poor for a Western nation, they are rapidly getting worse, and realistically going private is the only option due to NHS waitlists that are almost a decade long. As a student I am very limited on the time I can work and I also deal with a (diagnosed) disability, and I am simply unable to shoulder the cost of transition on my own - I already have to pay for private ADHD care, and I cannot withstand any more healthcare costs.
For some context, I have dealt with gender incongruence all of my life and I originally came out at 14 and began a medical transition at 17. Due to lack of money and an abusive environment I had to stop taking HRT and I detransitioned. I was subjected to medical neglect in the form of caretakers refusing to take me to doctor's appointments and having my HRT confiscated (I had to contact a charity and a human rights lawyer to get my legally prescribed testosterone returned to me) as well as shunning and verbal abuse from family. I have tried so hard to make being a woman work, but it doesn't, and I have decided ultimately that I deserve another chance at transition and at the life I dream of.
In the wake of my first transition attempt I have dealt with severe mental health issues that have almost cost me my life, and dysphoria that to this day limits my quality of life.
I need to pay for the following:
Blood tests 750£ (3x 250)
Gender Dysphoria diagnosis and referral to clinic 750£
Initial clinic appointment fee (@ Gender Hormone Clinic) 250£
Monthly clinic fee 330£ (6 x 55)
TOTAL -> 2080£
By the time I am established at the clinic I anticipate that I will have a full time job lined up and so will be able to afford the ongoing costs of treatment (55/month minimum). There will be other costs such as changing my name and documents, and travelling to clinic appointments, but I will save for this independently as they are smaller one off payments. As I pay for things I will post proof and updates.
