    Story

As you may know, during the Covid-19 pandemic, myself and some of my team at Torquay United Community Sports Trust have been supporting Feed a Child Torbay (FACT) with their invaluable work throughout Torbay. It’s been a real eye opener for us to see the current need in the Bay and how many meal kits are required to bridge the gap between the meals that they have and those that are needed. Currently, there are over 8,000 Under 19s living in poverty in Torbay.

FACT are not-for-profit community based group that provides meals for pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium and Pupil Premium Plus during school holidays. During the current crisis, they have been providing meal kits for children and families needing a little extra help throughout Torbay every week. They rely on donations (both non-perishable food items and also monetary) to be able to provide this service. During the upcoming Summer Holidays, FACT estimate they will be providing around 2,400 meal kits to these families needing a little extra help.

Within both the Women and Girls football teams here at Torquay United, we currently have over 80 registered players and coaches in total. By the end of July, we aim to fundraise £2,400.00 for FACT (to reflect the 2,400 meal kits they will be providing during the summer holidays). We feel this is a realistic and achievable aim - if all 80+ players and coaches take part, we will need to raise just £30 each to meet this target.

The challenge will be for us all to cover 2,400 miles during July, and raise £1 for every mile covered. Between 80 people, this is 30 miles in total, or 7.5 miles each week. We will cover these miles in a range of different ways – walking, cycling, scootering, running, swimming – maybe even some more weird and wonderful ways!

The challenge begins now - with the aim to have reached our target by July 31st.

Thanks in advance for your support for Feed a Child Torbay!

    Cheers, Jamie :-)
