Story
For some young people school holidays are one of the most exciting times they can remember when they can play all day with friends, go somewhere exciting or visit family. This is not the case for most kids living in the suburbs of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Poverty and boredom open doors for gangs and opportunists to invite these kids into more "appealing" activities.
We are investing our time and finances to offer a much more constructive option: teach them to read music and tutor them to play a classical instrument (like viola, violin and cello) everyday for 6 weeks and we finish the school with a big concert where they can bring family and friends along.
It's remarkable how much they can learn in such a short time. This also boosts their self esteem, helps them focusing and embrace their achievement.
This project started 5 years ago. This will be the 3rd year that I am taking my wife and little children (now 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 years old) for the whole month of July.
