Story
From Bike Rides to Bake Sales – all in the name of fundraising…
Two parents from Chesterfield, James Turner and Felix Mendelsöhn, are taking part in the Long Mynd Batch Burner endurance ride to raise funds for Norbury Primary School and the Friends of Monkey Park.
The Friends of Monkey Park is a newly established, volunteer run community group hoping to replace the old and dangerous play equipment in Chester Street Park (Monkey Park) in Brampton. The current equipment is old and rusty and the safety matting is crumbling away, making the play area unsafe for local children.
On 8th June 2019, the Dads will cover just over 45km and 1200 metres of climbing taking in country lanes, bridleways, forest tracks, drovers’ roads and open moorland.
Felix, who runs the Quiver Tree baking courses at Monkey Park Community Hub said: “Supporting this local initiative is a no-brainer. The new play equipment will attract more families to the park and create a safe place for their young ones to exercise and have fun."
Kevin Walker, Chair of the Friends of Monkey Park, added: “Thanks to the generosity of Felix and James we are moving closer to our target of £5,000 to help replace the play equipment in the park. If we can hit this target, we can unlock larger grant funding to make the purchase of new play equipment in the park achievable.”
Other fundraising events organised by the group include a charity bake sale on 23rd April at Monkey Park Community Hub and a Family Fun Day in the park on 14th July.
