Story

The Charity:

Larsen’s Pride was established in 2021, inspired by the brilliance and bravery of five-year-old Larsen and his love for big cats. Just like a lion, Larsen was brave and courageous throughout his brain tumour diagnosis and treatment. And just like a lion’s pride, we are a family, together, providing courage and comfort to other children facing this indiscriminate disease.

Larsen loved his Jellycat Big Cats. They accompanied him everywhere and gave him comfort, friendship, and security when life was turned upside down. His charity provides the very same soft toys to children undergoing treatment for brain tumours in England and Wales, in addition to funding research and projects into kinder treatments and cures.

The Challenge:

In May, Larsen‘s aunty Fern and her two friends, Grace and Anna will be completing the 24 hour Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Larsen’s Pride. Here they explain in their own words why they are doing it:

Fern:

Laraen was such an amazing human that throughout his brain tumour treatment, at only 5 years old, he himself was able to show such kindness and also gratitude for the support that he was receiving started fundraising while he was on chemo. During his treatment, he raised and amazing £3000 for the NUH big appeal by doing a slideathon challenge. He was acknowledged for his amazing fundraising by having his name put on to the special Robin Hood’s Heroes board at Nottingham Children’s Hospital - something that he was just SO proud of. This is a legacy that I want to continue for him and I hope to make him proud. He was a passionate, beautiful inspiration to anyone. He was my hero as well as a hero to many others. If Larsen was still with us, he himself would be fundraising too. I have already done a charity abseil from the roof of the hospital where he was treated to raise money for the ward but in 2022 I am especially proud to take on a new challenge for this incredible charity set up in Larsen’s name.

Anna:

Having experienced first hand the harsh effects of cancer treatment but being giving a second chance to live life to the fullest I am honoured and humbled to be able to complete the three peaks challenge alongside Fern and Grace with the intention to raise as much money and awareness as possible for Larsen’s Pride. An incredible charity, set up in memory of Larsen, that is supporting children who are having to endure gruelling treatment for brain tumours.

Grace:

As a children’s nurse who works in a children’s hospice Larsen’s pride is very close to my heart. Seeing first hand what children and families go through with childhood cancer is absolutely heartbreaking. So to take part in the 3 peaks chanllenge beside Fern and Anna is an honour. To raise awareness of this amazing charity bringing comfort and support to children ages 0-12 during their brain tumour treatment.
