Story

Why we need a new playground...

Ferryhill School has a total of 480 children. Our school was built in 1877 and our upper stages playground is small, in poor condition and in desperate need of new play equipment. We've worked with pupils to choose the right adventure trail obstacles, discuss ideas and get the design right. We're now launching an appeal for £85,000 to radically change the playground ... please help us get there!

Our goal is to raise £16,000 of the total amount required right here on this crowdfunding platform. In addition, we'll be raising money through trust applications, a pupil "seed capital" challenge, a raffle, and corporate sponsorship.

Maybe you have a child at the school, know someone who does, or simply walk or drive past the school regularly. What would it be worth to you to see the playground transformed into an exciting play space for all children in the Ferryhill Community?

Would it be worth £25, £50, £100 for your child to have a fantastic playground where they can play team sports, develop their motor skills and swing on monkey bars? (Many of us spend more than that for just 4 hours a month of swimming, football or dancing lessons...)

Would you give up chocolate, wine or cigarettes for a month and save £££? Would you forego two visits to JumpIn and set aside £22? Or would you rather do your own sponsored run, ice bucket or baking challenge?

During the Easter break, a few of our P3 girls raised the first £200 by selling baked goods ... well done Mathilda and friends!

How will the money be spent?

We'll do it in phases, depending on how much we achieve. First, we will install a new adventure trail with 8 obstacles on a soft "safe landing" surface (£21,881), then multi-sport goal posts and court markings (£9,552), a wooden shelter (£2,972), fresh paint, new bike racks, removal of old concrete planters and minor repairs (£4,000). If we can afford it, the final piece will be a new tarmac surface across the entire playground ( £46,602).

Most of the funds will - hopefully - be raised from generous local businesses and trusts but we need our parents, neighbours, local community, friends and family on board too!

Thanks in advance for your help...
