Linda Brooks is the voluntary director of a small school, Solidarite Dame-Marianne Ecole Communautaire in Dame Marie, Haiti and has lived there for 2 years. "The charity that I am involved in is Solidarity Dame-Marian, a 501C3 non-profit that has been providing the children of Dame Marie with education for the last 12 years".
Dame Marie, Haiti has been devastated by the category 4 Hurricane Matthew. Miles of beachfront shanty homes have been washed away, with no way into the town, except by an airstrip which you can only get to by boat. The only road into Dame Marie has been badly damaged cutting off all medical and food supplies to its over 40,000 occupants and the towns and villages beyond. Only 4 wheel drive trucks can get in at this time, but it's dangerous as many are being hijacked for their goods.
Cacao (cocoa) farming is important to Dame Marie. With the beans traditionally harvested during two peak seasons, between April and May and November and December. The hurricane has therefore not only destroyed infrastructure but also livelihoods, these people need your help! Any donations will be combined with profits from the Norwich Chocolate Fiesta happening on the 19th and 20th November 2016. www.norwichchocolatefestival.com/fiesta-information
The funds raised will be spent on emergency food, safe drinking water, housing, tin for roofs, water filtration programs, housing and supporting aid and rescue teams, a breakfast program for hungry children, the list is endless. Going directly to the people on the ground through our cocoa connections. We guarantee all funds will go to the people of Dame Marie and no money will be used for administrative and operating costs.
