Weʼve raised £440 to help fund IVF treatment privately as the NHS has removed us from their list as we are a same sex couple despite having fertility trouble.

Story
In 2015 we decided to start a family. We put our wedding plans on hold and began saving for our treatment instead. After several months of planning to start our family we found that Lisa has some fertility issues and would need to have IVF at a cost of £6,000 (minimum) per cycle.
Our GP, off their own back decided in December to refer us to the clinic under NHS guidelines as we qualified given several test results. February 23rd 2017 was our first appointment with our consultant who has declined to help us on the NHS because we are in a same sex relationship.
We do not believe we are better or more deserving than any other couple however i asked the consultant to clarify twice if Lisa walked in with a man would she receive nhs help? "Yes." If she walked in single would she receive nhs help? "Yes."
So because we are both women Lisa and I have been denied NHS funding. Beyond devastated and feel totally betrayed by our so called government.
Lisas health means we have an 18 month window in which to start treatment. Having already spent £900 to date and saving every penny we have we simply don't have the thousands required. As time is biologically against us we were really hoping for at least one round with the NHS as our GP though we would get.
We now realise that the government our against our relationship and therefore our family and now need to rely on the generosity of friends and communities to help our family become complete and my beautiful fiancee the chance to live her dream of carrying her baby.

7 years agoWe really cannot thank you all enough. The total raised is enough to cover half of the injections I will require to start egg stimulation and we will forever be grateful for your generosity in helping Baby Berry become a reality, not just for us but for all our family.

7 years agoWe have finally found a clinic for our IVF. We have decided to go abroad as the success rates are much higher for the same treatment. We have already been so well looked after by our coordinator who has offered lots of help and advice on our situation. We have made the decision to egg share as Lisas levels are now so low. This means I will be going through egg retrieval treatment and Lisa will go through embryo implantation. It will be nice to share the experience together but scary! Spending this weekend getting stuff ready for a car boot!
