Story

The Wolds Action group is a community organisation that is campaigning to preserve the 100% Greenfields site North of Matlock from unwanted and unviable development.

We are not NIMBYS and we understand the need for appropriate, affordable and sustainable development. However the Wolds site fails on all three of these criteria.

It is a much loved local landscape that offers a precious wildlife habitat on the very outskirts of the town.

The site suffers from many restrictions that we feel make it completely unsuitable for development of any kind. These include several natural springs throughout the site that already cause standing water and run off issues that would be exacerbated by development.

The site is inaccessible and the local roads network is already struggling to cope. Adding hundreds of extra houses will cause misery to motorists as well as existing and new residents.

The infrastructure of the town is already straining at the seams with traffic congestion a growing problem and issues with lack of GP appointments already becoming apparent for existing residents.

For these, and many other reasons, we will be strenuously fighting any planning application that is put in place. However we can't do it alone.

While we have put months, even years, of our own time into researching the site and its history, objecting, writing letters, speaking at meetings and galvanising the local community, we simply can't afford to financially fight it on our own.

That's why we are appealing to anyone who cares about Matlock's future to pledge money to support our planning fighting fund.
