Story

Lesley Sackey a former GB boxer and Gold medalist is starting a new non-profit on behalf of women and young people that are sufferers or survivors of abuse

The more we can inform, educate and teach people 'defence' against domestic abuse the closer we can get to eliminating it. We invite you to join us in this mission.

Motivated by my own personal experiences of leaving an abusive situation I wanted to create a space for women to come up with a plan not only to survive but thrive. There is a lot of focus on women feeling stuck in their situations, domestic violence is a hidden crime and affects people of all cultures, religions, ages, sexual orientations, educational backgrounds, and income levels.

In 2021 domestic abuse related incidents recorded by police increased by 6% from the previous year and accounted for 37.8% of violent crimes, recent covid restrictions attributed to this increase (Ons).

Almost one in three women aged 16-59 will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime.

In the last ten years the UK has lost 17% of its specialist domestic violence refuges (Women’s aid).

Our vision: Fight Forward will provide women with tools to exit and elevate. In addition educate young people at grass roots level to secure their futures free of violence and control.

Who will benefit: Women and young people. Using Boxing as a tool to build confidence, awareness, and joy based on three pillars of focus; Education, Restoration, and Elevation.

The funds will drastically aid the running of the following:

Education - alongside basic Boxing sessions, workshops for young people in educational institutes and communities to understand and recognise unhealthy behaviours, boundaries, and relationships that could lead to entering abusive situations. Additional workshops would centre around building confidence and self-esteem amongst young people and understanding of self to make informed choices.

Restoration - A holistic and practical approach to restoration and healing from trauma. Emphasis is on women being provided with the support to understand their situation and be provided with tools to help manage and heal. Moving from victim to victor. 121 counselling/group therapies/alternative healing therapies such as Reiki, Meditation, and Breath Work.

Elevation -A 360 approach for women to get foundational support. Learning how to box will be an integral part of helping these women to fight forward. Through connecting with their bodies and building confidence in self and understanding of not only how to physically but mentally protect themselves whilst providing access to services and professionals such as:

• Legal advice

• Business/Career Advice - business start-ups/cv development/job search

• Financial Advice (benefits, investments)

• Home Set up (housing advice/home search/relocation support)

• Life Coaching (tools and daily practices/solidify a plan)

Support us as we journey towards helping our community. Reaching our goals will support us in our mission to make Fight Forward the best it can be this year and years to come.
