    Story

Here’s the background that got me to set up this page, in the summer of 2016 our world was prefect. My husband and I had just celebrated our first wedding anniversary, our daughter had just turned two and a week later I had given birth to our second daughter.. little did we know what was round the corner..

5 weeks later Adam (my husband) went to the doctors with a lump on his neck, that he had found earlier in the year and had previously been diagnosed with tonsillitis. Within 3 weeks Adam had had blood tests, a CT scan and a biopsy on his neck. The day after his 27th birthday we had the worst news. Adam had Hodgkin lymphoma stage two (neck, armpits & chest) almost immediately he started 6 months of ABVD treatment, whilst on this treatment he was unable to work because of the type of job he does. I was on maternity leave and we struggled financially. We got by, living on a essential needs basis. In April 2017 we had positive result, the cancer had gone from his armpits, neck and only a shadow was showing on this chest which they thought was scarring, after a few months Adam received a follow up CT scan which brought our world crashing down once again, the cancer had grew in his chest. He was sent to walsgrave hospital to have a Hickman line put in (which we would find out later on, caused a 2cm blood clot on his heart and would need to be removed) He started a course of ESHAP which meant Adam would have to spends weeks in hospital, again Adam was unable to work and was only receiving statutory sick pay. We now had no savings left and were scrapping by to keep a roof over our heads and put food on the table. We stayed positive and hopeful for the results, but again it was not good news the cancer was still there. Adam then started on brentuximab a funded drug that had proven results. After a few sessions the CT scan showed that this drug was finally working Adam was back at work full time and we were starting to make plans for the future. Adam went for what we thought would be his final scan on 13th April 2018, on the 18th April we went to the hospital for the results, once again we were hit with more bad news, not only had the cancer got bigger in his chest it had also spread to his abdomen.. We are now waiting for the consultants to decide what they are going to do next, this could mean stem cell treatment, another drug, a trial drug or a mixture of them.. This is going to leave Adam off work again as he will spend weeks to months in hospital with no pay. I work from home and do not have a reliable income.

We are not ones to normally ask for help, but we have tried for the last 19 months to be self sufficient although it’s been a very tough time. We have 2 small children, a mortgage, bills and food that we are and will continue struggling to provide sufficient funds for.

Please help us keep our home & family financially stress free over the next couple of months whilst Adam receives the treatment needed for him to live a long and for filled life with his wife and daughters Cancer free. Thank-you
