Weʼve raised £7,801 to help the fight against brain tumours, in Memory of Finnbar Cork
- Taunton, United Kingdom
- Funded on Monday, 3rd October 2016
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Our Friends Tristan and Claire’s little boy Finnbar has been diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. Finnbar is receiving 24 hour care from his amazing family. What they are going through is unimaginable for all of us, but together they are fighting this with the support of family and friends.
That’s where we come in!!!
Finnbars last name is Cork and the patron saint of Cork is Finbarr, so that’s where we will go. The Cork family live in Hethersett so that’s where we will finish. The distance is approximately 500 miles which we intend to cycle in 5 days. We are aiming to raise £10000 to support Finnbar and his family through this most difficult of times.
***Please see the update below - a charity will soon be set up in Finnbar's Memory. Money raised will now be used to help other families going through the same devastating experience, either financially or through advice and support that just cannot be offered by the main charities. We will also push the agenda for research into brain tumours, especially rare and inoperable tumours and particularly in children, both by campaigning and by supporting bigger charities which share this goal. Despite the fact that brain tumours are the biggest killer of all cancers in children and young people, research and treatment options are woefully inadequate and years behind other cancers. Just 1% of the UK national cancer research spend goes toward brain tumour research. We also feel that there are a number of improvements that can be made to the way that the system currently handles children with complex brain tumours. The ultimate aim is to help win the fight so that, in the future, no children or families will have to go through the same pain.

Tragically, Finnbar passed away overnight on the 5th August with his Mum and Dad by his side, words cannot express how sad we all are and we will continue on to raise money in his memory. Tristan and Claire would like every penny raised to be used for charitable donations. They will be using the money for research into childhood brain tumors and support for other families affected by this devastating illness. Thank you so much to those who have already donated, we are grateful for anything people can give.

About the fundraiser
Taunton, United Kingdom
We are a group of paramedics trying to raise money for our friends. Mostly based near Norwich, with one outlier (me) in Taunton. Most of us are not cyclists so this is a huge challenge for us. Any support you can give would be greatfully recieved. We are Finnbar500 on Facebook.
