Story

Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, have one of their biggest research station in Zakynthos. Some of the aims of the non-profit, non-government organisation is to record nests in the Lagana Bay area, the largest nesting site for loggerhead turtles in the Mediterranean, to measure hatching success and tag turtles so they can learn more about these amazing animals. They also work to inform the public as much as possible for what they can do to help conserve the sea turtle population, all while selling merchandise and turtle adoptions to raise money. This money goes towards the running of the research stations, but also to the rescue centre in Athens. This stations cares for injured turtles found all over Greece with the ultimate aim of rehabilitating them enough to be released back into their natural habitats. It costs about €150 to keep a turtle at the rescue centre for just one month and the centre is home to numerous turtles often for extended periods of time.
Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated. This August I am also running a marathon in Poland which I hope will raise awareness for Archelon and the work they do. For more information on their work or to find out how you can volunteer with them go to their website at http://www.archelon.gr/index_eng.php.
Thanks for your help!
