The Finnish School Cardiff

The Finnish Saturday School (http://suomikoulucardiff.org/ ) was funded in 2011. We currently have 26 children between the ages of 1-9 years old. We offer Finnish speaking children and children of Finnish speaking parents the possibility of maintaining, learning and improving their Finnish language skills and keeping the Finnish culture alive outside Finland. We are funded by the Finnish State, but we do currently run on a very low budget and do need to raise funds to be able to continue offering high quality and standard language education that is also exciting and innovative for the children.

I am currently the teacher for the toddler group of the Finnish School. I am very passionate about languages and the importance of language education for children. I am Finnish and German, married to an Italian and currently living in Wales with our four children.

I am running the Venice marathon now on the 22.10.2017 and thought it a good occasion to raise some funds for the Finnish School in Cardiff. And what a better time to celebrate Finland and the Finnish language than this year, as we are celebrating 100 years of Finnish Independence.

Cardiffin Suomi-koulu

Cardiffin Suomi-koulu( http://suomikoulucardiff.org/) perustettiin vuonna 2011. Meillä on tänä lukuvuonna 26 lasta, jotka ovat 1-9 vuotiaita. Tarjoamme suomea puhuville lapsille ja lapsille joiden vanhemmat puhuvat suomea mahdollisuuden oppia, ylläpitää ja parantaa Suomen kielen taitojaan sekä ylläpitää suomalaista kulttuuria Suomen ulkopuolella.

Saamme rahoitusta Suomen valtiolta, mutta silti tarvitsemme lisää rahoitusta jatkaaksemme Suomi-koulun toimintaa ja pystyäksemme edelleen tarjoamaan korkealaatuista ja samanaikaisesti innostavaa opetusta laspille.

Olen taaperoiden opettaja ja tiedän omasta kokemuksesta kuinka tärkeää kielien opetus on lapsille. Olen suomalais-saksalainen, naimisissa italialaisen kanssa ja asumme neljän lapsemme kanssa Walesissä.

Juoksen 22.10.2017 Venetsian maratonin ja ajattelin, että tämä on sopiva hetki kerätä varoja Cardiffin Suomi-koululle. Ja mikä parempi aika juhlia Suomea ja suomalaisuutta kuin 100 vuotinen itsenäisyytemme!
