Story
My name is Fiona Namusoke, and I am creating this JustGiving page in memory of my son Ashraf Habimana, who tragically lost his life to knife crime at the young age of 16, in September 2023. This year he would have been in first year of university, because he wanted to study a degree in cyber security.
Ashraf was kind, very outgoing, super friendly and he literally lit up the room with his big smile. He smiled right until his last day, and that smile is what I will always carry with me. It will forever be etched into my heart and into my memory.
I am determined to create something that brings meaning, safety and hope to others. With the support of family, friends and well-wishers we have launched a charity, the Ashraf-Habimana Foundation to raise awareness, to educate and reduce knife crime so that other families do not have to experience the pain that I now live with everyday.
This fundraising page is specifically created to support the youth and we would like to focus on providing Amnesty bins, that will be placed in hot-spot locations. These bins will serve as a visible reminder of the devastating consequences of carrying knives and to provide a safe and responsible way for offensive weapons to be disposed of.
We will also, as a foundation, establish strategic partnerships with law enforcement and public health agencies to ensure this initiative is properly supported and sustained long term- Every donation made, no matter how small, contributes to creating safer spaces, supporting young people, and honouring Ashraf’s memory through action, rather than silence.
If Ashraf’s story can help protect even one life, then his legacy will be one of courage, compassion and change.
