I am raising money to support The CVI Society in raising awareness and supporting people with the condition

At age 20, after many other diagnosis, my son, Finnian was diagnosed with CVI.

Unfortunately, as with other visual impairments, early diagnosis is crucial in making sure a child develops and learns effectively and to keep them safe.

Finnian was previously diagnosed with many conditions including autism, dyspraxia and dyslexia but none of them ever quite fitted. It was by chance we found out when an OT at college took the time to listen to me and although she did not know what was wrong, started investigating.

Due to the late diagnosis, The CVI society have been the only organisation that were able to assess Finnian's needs and support us to understand his condition.

I am hoping to raise money to support them and to raise awareness so that other children get the early intervention they need and not miss out vital specialised support.

It is estimated that 1 in 30 children have CVI but, no professionals recognised FInnian had the condition for 20 years.

I am cycling The South Downs Way, 100 miles across Sussex on 12 and 13 July with my cycling group and hope this inspires you to take the time to understand the condition especially if you work with children
