Story
50,000 people face a food crisis in Sheffield
Every day in our community there are parents unable to feed their children, elderly people living in fear, wondering where their next meal is coming from, the homeless unable to access food or shelter and the vulnerable unable to care for themselves without anyone able to go in and support them.
Covid-19 caused our industry to collapse, preventing us from opening for months, but we're fighting back by volunteering our time and kitchen to cook meals for those in need across our community.
We're not alone either, there are many kitchens across the UK working for free to feed their community as part of the Open Kitchens initiative. You can show your support by visiting the Open Kitchens website and help spread the word by following Open Kitchens on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & LinkedIn.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, your kindness and generosity is making a huge difference to many people in our community every day!
We can't wait to see you again on the other side, but for now, and more than ever we need to come together, so please dig deep and donate to help feed those in need.
With love,
Rick and the team at FirePit Rocks

4 years agoThe Pantry Project is another community hub that's been receiving meals from Fire Pit Rocks. The project acts as a food bank that visitors can pay a nominal monthly fee to access and collect their groceries. Since the pandemic, The Pantry Project has had to expand its services, and the meals from Open Kitchens have been a huge help in making this happen. There are many elderly and disabled people who rely on The Pantry Project, so these nutritious cooked meals have been a vital form of support in these tricky times.

4 years agoHow have your donations helped the community? The Spires Centre is a community centre which supports vulnerable groups in Sheffield. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the food bank was supporting 30 people. Demand has now massively increased, with the service feeding 363 people last week. Meals provided by Open Kitchens have allowed the centre to cope with this huge increase in demand. The centre feeds lots of large families, as well as elderly people, all of whom are delighted to have a hot, restaurant-quality meal.
