Story

The first years of a child's life are important where ever they live and who ever they are. In the refugee community in Conakry the importance is critical.

Day Care allows mums to leave their children somewhere safe rather than take them into the traffic to sell to passing cars. It allows young mums to continue with their education. It means the children are well cared for, taught good hygiene and health skills and helps them learn English while their aptitude for language is high.

Early years teachers need books, toys and visual aids to teach effectively. They need access to washing facilities and a space for their young students to nap in the afternoon rather than roam the streets until their elder siblings or parents are free to collect them.

At Conakry Refugee School we want to create the sort of early years provision you would want for your children and this need money. The money we raise will pay for the setting up of a Day Care Centre, improve equipment and furniture in the early years classes and improve the provision of hygiene and safe water at the school

After visiting the school twice in the last 9 months my family has decided to invest in building the capacity of the school in its early years provision. We feel this will increase the educational outcomes throughout the school, support vulnerable female students and give opportunities to female staff and parents to make a better living.

The £7500 we have donated will jump start these projects as we hope to get them off the ground by the start of the new academic year in September. We need a further £7500 to complete this work. With your support we can make this happens.
