Story

Regular supporter of the Flamingo Pool and swimmer Jodie Loescher is completing the Swim 22 challenge this year to raise funds for both diabetes charities and the Flamingo Pool. Here is Jodies story:

My name is Jodie Loescher, I’m 23 years old. Early in 2020 I had a horrible life-threatening disease called Sepsis which resulted in me having both my legs amputated. Swimming has always been a big part of my life and even more so now - when I’m in the water I feel like everyone else.

Swim 22 is a 22 mile swimming challenge (the width English Channel) to raise funds for diabetes charities as well as the Flamingo Pool and this is my way of supporting those who like me have to live with the consequences of a life-changing disease and at the same time raising vital money for the Flamingo Pool.

Other swimmers from the wide Flamingo Pool family are joining Jodie in the challenge and she hopes you might be inspired to either join in or sponsor.

Any money raised for the Flamingo Pool will go towards buying a new disabled Trolley Lift to help in moving the disabled hoist between the Hydrotherapy Pool and the Main Pool. This vital bit of equipment helps to enable all swimmers to have access to and from the water, helping to provide them with the freedom that movement in water can deliver.
