Story

What I do

In 2012 I began designing and commissioning the small-scale manufacturing of craft items in Dzaleka refugee camp, Malawi, where I had been working with my husband Innocent, running THERE IS HOPE - an NGO that we had started a few years prior. Our first product was a sensory baby book which I needed for our daughter Mwiza, who was profoundly disabled through being born with a rare brain malformation. Five years down the line, this craft initiative has grown into a social enterprise employing over 50 artisans living in and around Dzaleka refugee camp, and rated #1 shopping location in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital city, by TripAdvisor.

Why the MBA now?

In the day-to-day management of KIBEBE MALAWI I find myself struggling with knowing how to analyse our numbers, intelligently costing and pricing our products, as well as discerning the most effective distribution channels. I see huge potential for scaling up KIBEBE MALAWI and for taking it onto the international market, but I lack the knowledge and understanding of business principles that would enable me to manage the risks associated with such decisions. I need to significantly strengthen my understanding of Finance, Accounting and Economics as well as of Business Research Tools.

So what's the deal?

Maastricht School of Management have accepted me on their MBA Course with a specialization in Entrepreneurship. This is incredible, given that I have never actually been to University! The course has a duration of 2 years, and it is offered online so I will be able to study from Malawi, with only 2 weeks on campus in Maastricht, Netherlands in July 2019. The school have already awarded me a 50% scholarship, honoring the non-profit heart of our work. I feel truly blessed. Please help me raise the funds required to cover the MBA fees and the cost of my 2-week on campus study. Thank you!
