Story

Children with dyslexia awareness Sierra Leone

Dyslexia can affect just every aspect of a person’s life. It's not just problems in school. It concerns a person's entire life. This is more difficult in a country like Sierra Leon where only one out of one hundred people have ever hard the word “Dyslexia” Overcoming dyslexia makes so many things in life so much more comfortable but for some people, just the awareness will help.

I am dyslexic I pass it on to my second son both of us lived in the UK now we both know how difficult life can be in a country where there is no much awareness of dyslexia.

I understand how frustrating it is when you have a child with Dyslexia. It can be a difficult path to travel. Life is filled with long hours of homework, which just eat away all of your time, and leave you no time for the good things in life.

October is dyslexia awareness month, and I will like to join other dyslexic people around the world to raise the awareness but I want to do that in Sierra Leone with a specific target on the girl child. A dyslexia girl child in Sierra Leone is more likely to be taken out of school than other children who are not dyslexic. She is less likely to get school support like scholarship than others t because only the brightest will be given. A dyslexic girl child in Sierra Leone is more likely to suffer sexual and domestic violence in the hands of teachers, parents and carers than other children. Must often this children a perceive to be stupid and lazy
