    Story

So as most of you who know me know I worked 3 mths at a homeless shelter over Xmas and the contract ended 1st March. However I have carried on taking an interest on a personal level in the interest of homeless people in the area... So a few weeks ago during one of daily walk I came across a small group using an WW2 look out post as a camp and got talking to them and it lead to me starting to take food and bits every time I went up there for them, now you may well ask why are they still there when the Government has said all homeless people will be taken inside during the crisis, well let’s just say their issues are very very complex and whilst more could be done for them it’s partly their own fault they are out there still and whist they do get some support from local charities it’s tuff during this virus crisis as a lot of smaller charities etc are on lockdown, it also don’t help they are a bit off the beaten track.

So on Saturday (11th April) I popped by to drop some bits off and sitting there is an old women I had met a few months ago and we start talking and I realised that one of the things this group needed at this moment was a voice ( normally this would be a local charity etc but as I said most are not operating at the moment ) it’s wouldn’t be fair for me to disclose their stories on here but take it from me you could write a book, there’s a lot going on.

So on Sunday 12th April I go up there and it was so cold I decided to highlight her case to some contacts in the sector I had and with great joy it started a bit of a domino effect and within 4 days she was offered a room in a local hotel ( at this point I would like to thank the few that made this happen, you know who you are xxx) so you have to understand this is the first time to my knowledge that she has had her own space and a real bed for many years, when she saw it she cried .... a moment I won’t forget. Also the good news is that one of the local hardworking Angels is going to keep an eye on her daily and hopefully now that she is in the system again at some point she can obtain the full time help she needs hopefully in the form of fully supported accommodation. I hope she can hold it together till then and with so many issues it will hard for her to do so but she deserves a chance. UPDATE as of the start of May I/we are still paying for her hotel which is outrageous but the system is so slow, the good news is she doing well.

So as you go about your daily business don’t ever think you can’t make a different, if you see someone or something that don’t seam right to you a little effect might be all it takes to correct, the reward is priceless

So what’s happening to the others up there, well I have also highlighted their position and the good news is that their plight is being readdressed by some highly dedicated people who if there’s a way will help them, but I got to say their a bloody awkward lot up there so we will have to wait and see what happens, some people mental health along with deep trust issues just make it so hard to help them or some just don't understand/are lost in the system. UPDATE As of the start of May the Council are being very slow to respond am at a point where Im asking my lawyer for advice, sad but true, Im still taking supplies up to them every few days.

As i said above Im still going to carry on taking bits up to them and if it gets to a point I can’t I will find a way to keep them supplied, I can’t just give them money as i suspect it will just go on liquid refreshment 😂😂 however I quite happy to do a shop for them

So you got this far ( well done) so here what I’m asking I could do with a few quid to help with the costs, I been covering it so far but it does mount up ☹️ I don’t need a lot £20 to £25 a day between them should sorts food etc and the hotels cost £30 per night , I’m still happy to chip in but any help would be greatly received and enable me to keep the basic supplies flowing till a point they are not needed , I dont want a lot from anyone even £1 would help.

I must point out I’m doing this on my own back and it’s not connected to any charities or agencies I have or am involved with. I know people who know me know I will follow through however if you don’t know me your have to trust the ones that do 😂😂

Thanks for reading and be safe 🤗

Ps if the money starts flowing in theres some others I am helping in hotels too who whist housed have little or nothing to eat and as they got heath issues are on lockdown and to be honest a bit forgotten.

Pss if for any reason I end up with excess money or items during/or at the end of this I will donate it to the local food bank.

Strange day I received a very positive email from local MP who seams interested in helping and I believe but at the same time the homeless women I helped last week contacted me to say the local council have withdrawn funding for room, it’s only £30pn, the hotel was happy for her to stay as she been no problem, so I paid it for the next week from the donations So now I got the hump with F&HDC housing dept and I’m going for them. So thanks to all of us that lady safe , she cried again when she found out she wasn’t back on St, very rewarding
