Story

The Folklore Library and Archive is dedicated to collecting, preserving and making freely available for the future folklore in all formats: documents, audio and video recordings, books and artefacts.

Many valuable collections are lost because there was no provision made for their future. We have rescued in excess of 100,000 pages of document material in the last year, and provided a home for collections of national and international significance in folklore research. Some of these, we have saved from being broken on the open market.

Many of our resources are being made available digitally, but to do this and to provide research access to the library and archives, as well as hosting live events, we need a physical base.

We are fortunate to be able to rent shelf space in a public library which makes our collections accessible to all who can get here, as well as allowing us facilities to help with our digitisation programme.

But, we receive no grant funding or other help.

We can only provide our collections through our own fundraising and support processes.

Please help us to find the next year's rental costs for the Library & Archive, so that we can continue to operate. Thank you.
