    Story

Footsbarn Travelling Theatre is one of the world’s leading touring companies performing for the most part in one of its circus big tops but also in theatres thoughout the world.

Its mission was born from a dream to create a form of theatre that is popular, generous, professional yet accessible to all. To take theatre out of the limits of established buildings and bring it closer to the local population to farms, beaches, streets and village squares.

The company is renowned for its exciting adaptations of classics such as Shakespeare & Moliere - transcending the barrier of language with its unique blend of visual theatre, music and magic.

This year it is celebrating its 50th anniversary and is looking to finance the making of a documentary on their extraordinary legacy.

Our dear friend and renowned documentary maker Myles O’Reilly has kindly given up his time to film events, but of course there is equipment and travel expenses to pay for, along with editing the footage. Because of the pandemic severely affecting our income over the past 18 months, we simply don’t have a budget for this project right now and we are keen to get this film made during our 50th anniversary when all the Footsbarn family will be together at our home in La Chaussée in France for a special celebration.

All money raised from this campaign will go into making a professional broadcast-quality documentary and in return for your generosity all donators will receive a credit and an invitation to the exclusive premiere of the film!

Footsbarn are in production with a striking new adaptation of the classic Irish novel, The Crock of Gold, with music performed by Oscar-winner Glen Hansard and Kerry accordion player Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich, which they hope to tour Ireland with in 2022.

Watch this short clip below of Glen talking about his love of Footsbarn ...

    - and if you wish to find out more about The Crock of Gold, watch the full interview with Glen here.

Thank you for your generous support, it really means a lot to us - from all the Footsbarn Family.

Dear generous supporters, thank you for all your help so far - we are almost at 30% of our target! We also have an update on the doc! Film-maker Myles O'Reilly has posted a short clip on his YouTube channel, that we wanted to share with you first. It is a beautiful snippet from La Chaussee during our 50th anniversary last October, and he captures the magic of Footsbarn, the community and Hérisson. Please take a look at the footage that you have helped to create, and we will post more updates as soon as they become available. Thank You!

Footsbarn has, for me, represented a powerful and chaotic force of accessible culture. We need more of this!
