Story
My name is Anusuya Kumar and I run the 'Forest School' of Mussoorie in the lower Himalayas. It is the first of its kind in India. The guiding vision is of integrating natural environments - a pristine forest of 50 acres, in this case - with education at a primary and kindergarten level. The school services children of local hill-communities.
Our classes are held outdoors amidst trees and flower-fields, trails in the forest - except for winter or rain - and the curriculum involves using elements of the forest as pedagogical tools from counting, learning language, art-making, and creative self-expression.
We have a school-house with infrastructure and a forest playground but we urgently need a full-time school teacher to service our children. The teacher would need to be trained in our innovative curriculum that involves ways of educating children through forest-immersions.
