Story

On 24.08.22 my beautiful sister Emily took her own life as living was causing her too much suffering. What I have learnt from this experience is, it didn’t matter how much Emily was hurting she would always try and be there to support others and to make sure no one suffered in the way she often did.

Therefore, my family and I wish to raise money in her honour. The money will specifically be going towards supporting mental well-being at the Simon Balle School and wider community. A place close to Ems heart and therefore to my family and I for the endless support they gave Emily. Something that they continued to do into her University years.

Ems was able to be her true self at Simon Balle and they helped her through many challenges in her time. The school itself meant a lot to Emily and we as family want to give back even in a small way. If we together, can help at least one person in Ems position we will have set out what we wanted to achieve!

If you know someone who is experiencing suicidal feelings then explain, that it’s ok to have these thoughts and professional help is there if they need it. I wish there was not such a stigma attached to this issue and maybe more people would reach out.

Ems was studying Psychology at Lancaster University and she worked tirelessly on her dissertation about de-stigmatising mental health issues and what it was like to live this one. I want Emily’s contribution to always be remembered as I know this is she would want. We also take great comfort in this and feel it’s imperative to continue her legacy.

She was the kindest and most caring sister and Aunt and would always have your back. She was unapologetically Emily and truly one of a kind and always stood up for what she believed in, especially for those that had little voice.

I will continue to miss you everyday Ems, but this will go some way to healing the pain. Thank you for teaching me love, understanding and compassion. I hope you realised how special and loved you are. Sleep tight and I hope you and Granny Lorna are together again 🌼💕

RIP beautiful soul 18.03.1999- 24.08.2022 ❤️
