Story

Giving something back..

Rather than do the typical skydive fundraiser, I’d like to raise money to fulfill design work for charities, and new startups where individuals are recovering from mental illness.

As many of my friends and family know, I’ve suffered from depression from a young age periodically. This latest episode made me rethink what I want to achieve, how I can contribute in my own small way, and hopefully give something back to people that really need it.

I’m a graphic designer by trade, and I feel that I can give something back to the community by providing a service that is functional, setting someone up for success with minimal cost. Instead of donating straight to charity, the money will be used for paying for hosting and resources like font licenses for clients who need graphic design as part of their project, enabling them to use that money elsewhere in their projects.

I hope one day to be able to fully support this myself financially, but in the meantime I consider doing what I do best as a nice alternative to sky diving because the benefits are tangible, and hopefully the start of a great future for anyone that I can help.

All the money donated will go to directly to supporting mental illness within my capacity as a designer. It will not be used to pay for my time. If for some reason I don’t succeed, it’ll be donated to Young Minds in honour of my school friend Kieran who committed suicide due to depression.

Thank you, Carys
