We're really excited to be preparing for the birth of our third baby, this time through an elective c-section, in February.

After two difficult labours, including an emergency c-section, we're so aware that without the fantastic NHS our story could have been very different, as could that of other members of our family.

Since we already have the things we need for our baby, we would like to ask those who were planning to buy us a 'new baby' gift to instead make a donation to help other babies, who are not as fortunate as ours, to arrive safely.

We plan to put the money towards two charities. Pregnancy Twinning provides antenatal, maternity and post natal care to women in Malawi, where a woman is 60 times more likely to die during pregnancy and childbirth than in the UK. Check out their work at www.pregnancytwinning.org

We'd also like to provide safe delivery kits through present aid. Every year, 40,000 babies die in Kenya. Although it’s free for women to give birth in hospital, they don’t get any of the essentials we take for granted. This gift could help ensure that a baby is born safely, without harming their mother, and without picking up infection in the first critical hours of their life. A delivery kit contains life-saving equipment, including forceps, soap, towels and surgical gloves. It costs £20.

Although we have put a target on this page, it is an arbitrary figure which the website requires. Whatever we raise will go to these two charities.
