Story
Our local, The Blackburne Arms was bequeathed to our community by Lt. Col Robert Ireland Blackburne and then built by Greenall Whitely back in 1929. So in its 90th anniversary year it is now under threat from being demolished to make way for older persons retirement block of flats.
Now we are preparing for a legal challenge and this is why we need to raise funds for legal costs.
The pub is the heart of the community is local heritage listed. Also, the pub is busier than for long while, so losing this iconic building will affect hundreds of people.
We have a full retirement village less than one mile away for there is no need for this development locally.
Also, there are just as good places up for sale nearby so they could move it to there.
