ABOUT THE SCHOOL
We are partnering with Sheikh Zahid Primary and Secondary School (SZS) in Qalimow, Somalia. 273 pupils attend SZS aged between 6 to 18. It’s a free school that has been struggling to provide quality education to children as it has no government funding and previously relied on small donations. Over the last couple of years, the school has received no donations.
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
Many students come from farming families with little means, so cannot afford uniform or appropriate footwear.
SZS has poor infrastructure. The classrooms are made from material which creates an unbearable environment during the summer months. This makes it impossible for children to learn. The ceilings are weak, so the classrooms flood in the rainy season.
The school has just one toilet, shared between almost 300 students and staff. There are no sports or play facilities for students to enjoy during their breaks from lessons. SZS also lacks basic resources like books and stationary.
We want the students at SZS to enjoy their right to a quality education.
HOW CAN WE HELP?
Every generous donation will transform lives little by little, creating endless opportunities.
📌 £5,500 rebuilds one classroom using brick and durable materials.
📌 £700 provides one toilet for the school.
📌 £200 creates a playground for the students.
📌 £30 sends one child to school with: a complete set of stationary, notebooks, curriculum books, uniform, shoes and a bag.
📌 £2,500 installs a football pitch for the students.
📌 £141 pays one teacher’s monthly salary.
📌 £350 installs a clean water facility for the students and staff.
HOW MUCH OF THE MONEY WILL GO TO THE SCHOOL?
100% of proceeds will go to the cause. Regular reports and updates will be available.
