Story

On September 17th, Cathy, Fran and Sarah are aiming to complete the Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours and raise money to help children begin to have a normal life after escaping domestic violence.

Every year thousands of British kids, with their mums, have to flee domestic violence. Often they have to leave their home in an emergency with no money, clothing and no clear idea what will happen next. Many of them arrive in Women's refuges far away from where they were living. This may be the first time in their lives they have felt safe.

In Warwickshire there are three women's refuges which help families mentally, physically and socially recover from the abuse they have escaped from. For some that decision to leave has, quite literally, been a matter of life or death.

For children, part of this recovery is to allow them to have a normal childhood, make new friends and take part in kids activities. This is very hard for children living in refuges as their address is secret and they're not allowed to have friends back home. They often have no money to help pay for the things that make life normal again - a trip to the swimming pool, the right school uniform for their new school or even a haircut.

We're raising money for the Warwickshire Women's Refuges wellbeing fund. Every penny we raise will go there. Five pounds could be an hour in the soft play centre, or a new teddy bear to cuddle. It could be the difference between a great week or a bad week for a child. If a child is happy, it helps their mum recover too.
