Story
Kamara is a 4 year old cob, with a big personality who ive owned for just under 3 years. Recently started her ridden career and showing so much potential but ...
19th january 2019 was the day that changed kamaras life forever. Some awful people broke into the yard the night of the 18th. Because kamara liked to tap the door when people were around, the burgalars found the closet thing to keep her quiet which was unfortunaly a 20kg sack of carrots. Throwing the whole bag over the door, which obviously she ate, little did they know how much damage they would do.
The morning of the 19th i came down to a very dull, lethargic baby to find she had swelled from her head and all down her neck, caused from a sugar overload from the carrots. I straight away rushed her to my vets for them to examine and see what could be done. They kept her in for the day to keep a close eye on her, making sure she didnt colic, with her starting to brighten up and look more normal, they were keen to discharge her so she could come home to her familiar environment and be with her best mate (my other horse, they are inseprible). Little did i know this would be 1 of many trips for her to the vets!
The following couple of weeks consisted of being in and out of the vets for tubing, blood transfusions (her body was fighting so hard she lost all her protein in her blood) and hundreds of tablets (140 a day, sterioids, antibiotics and pain relief) to be administered. She struggled to eat and drink from being in so much pain, the carrots had burnt the lining of her intestine which Normally works as a filter to take in the nutriance from food and water, because she wasnt taking in enough this was making the lining not repair itself, and not giving her any nutrients to keep her strength up, resulting in getting chronic diarrhoea. On top of all this she then developed oedema which is when the fluid from the blood gathers at the lowest point, creating a swelling, in kamara’s case it was from her chest, all under her stomach to in between her back legs. It was a visious circle.
10th of febuary kamara sadly lost her fight, she was too weak, the drugs were no longer working, i made the heartbreaking decision to have her put to sleep. As much as i would have loved to see her come through this horrible ordeal, it would have been selfish of me to do so.
Im asking for donations, as little or as much as you please to help put towards her vet bills, anything over the target will be donated to the vets practice on my behalf for all the amazing work they did, have done and will carry on doing for their other patients.
Thankyou for reading, i hope her story touched you as much as she had an impact in my life ❤️
