Story
We are raising money for the charity Too Young To Wed- a non-profit that aims to protect girls' rights and end child marriage worldwide.
At the moment TYTW has set up an emergency Afghanistan initiative which arranges the safe evacuation of high-risk Afghan women and children. The Taliban forcefully took control of Afghanistan in Summer 2021, shocking the world as the realisation set in that this oppressive and terrifying organisation was back in power.
So far, TYTM has evacuated over 450 women and their families and are in direct communication with safe houses, security groups, transportation agencies and airlines, and larger government entities to make sure people are evacuated safely and as smoothly as possible. One of the many limitations of evacuating women is money. Each planeload costs around $100,000 USD. Every penny that is donated to TYTW is being used effectively and efficiently.
Some of those evacuated include a young female boxing champion, the first female prosecutor in southern Afghanistan, judges, lawyers, social workers, doctors and activists who have been visible in fighting for the rights of women in their country.
To raise money, Holly Wrench, Valérie Raas and Francesca Enever are going to attempt to climb Scotlands three tallest mountains in three days. There will be roughly 10 hours of walking each day and we will camp near the mountains each night. We will begin our training now with the plan being to walk around April 2022. Follow us on instagram where we will post regularly of the work that TYTW are doing and the progress of our training. @munr_oaming
Although, for those of us who live outside of Afghanistan, the takeover of the Taliban is in the past. However, the impact of their suppressive control is still very current and present for those within Afghanistan and may continue so for years. That is why it is important we do all we can to help and protect those who are in danger for their lives and want to leave the country.
Thank you so much for any donations that are given. <3
