Story
Hello Everyone! Before the coronavirus hit, Argentina was already going through an intense Economic crisis, and with the impact of the coronavirus and one of the longest quarantines in the world setting in, more and more people are struggling to pay for basic necessities such as food, clothing and somewhere to stay. As winter is beginning to set in and the quarantine showing no sign of loosening, it is predicted that Buenos Aires, the worst hit area of the country, could be under quarantine for a further 10 weeks. As most of the people in need were informal workers before the quarantine, their income has been cut off completely with very little help available from the government, things are becoming increasingly desperate for many people inside the capital.
Im starting this fund on my birthday with the aim of splitting the money through a number of different causes in the City that has been so kind and welcoming to me over the past year, and helping as many people as possible.
The first cause will be to support a local group who are working on making bags of foods for different families either in the villas (favelas/ informal housing) or poverty circumstances, as well as helping out with goods to “comedores” which are open cafeterias where people can eat for free. For example of how far your money could go: £50 can pay for 200 portions of food, and the blankets have a cost of around £4 each.
The second cause the money will go towards is Modulo Sanitario: In Argentina there are 6 million people without a bathroom. In situations like this, where hygiene and hand washing are essential measures to prevent diseases like coronavirus, the emergency becomes more evident.
Donate sanitary KITs so that families who do not have a bathroom can clean themselves, take care of the spread of the Coronavirus and thus we take care of each other .
The KITs will be delivered in the neighborhoods where we work and include the following products: soaps, bleach, alcohol, vinegar (or disinfectant) and a basin.
One kit is around £5!
The rest of the money will be split between a number of other causes locally and I will keep everyone update with how the money is used!
Thank you for reading!
