It's hard to know where to begin......

I am a Canadian citizen; married last year to an American; we had both been long aware of the increasingly delusional behavior all across the North American continent, so the decision to immigrate wasn't spurred by the election of Trump; rather a choice made to avoid a potential civil war, (the situation on this continent is rather worse than media reports let on.)

What follows is an upscale refugee story: Having to wait and re-file paper work multiple times, receiving incorrect documents from governments, un-insured injuries, legal expenses, vehicle break downs, plumbing leaks, theft of seeds for last spring s planting, unrecoverable double charges for hotel rooms during the border processes, a thousand swarming gnats of mis-fortune.

And when the situation couldn't possibly get worse, my aged mother has a mental health collapse, leading to police interviews, beginning proceedings with social workers, an ongoing loss of ever shrinking cash and even more valuable time.

My mothers health and welfare is a small concern, as Canada has quite serviceable social programs; programs now partially forbidden to my wife, step-daughter and myself as part and parcel of the terms of residency in Canada for the next 23 months.

Food we have in abundance, as we spent the summer well, health care as well; what we lack is nothing more than rent money for a month while we catch our breath and get this sorry state sorted.

There is quite literally nothing more than a promise made under a set of false premises by my mother to pay the landlord cash monthly, no written agreement, no legal recourse- nothing that keeps us from being homeless during a northern Canadian winter.

And stranger still: our land lord is wintering, as he does, in Cuba; all of this Canadian drama coming to a head, just as Fidel Castro dies.

All of this, I think, is just what the story of Job would read like, if set in the 21st century.
