Button Battery Awareness!

The Frankie Gibson Appeal!

In Sept 2015, My cousin Hayleys little daughter Frankie Gibson (2yr old), accidently swallowed a button battery.

Frankie was taken to Southampton General Hospital where she was stabilised before being rushed to Great Ormand Street in London for a life saving operation to remove the battery and try and repair the damage that had been done!

The battery had burned through parts of her throat, as well as acid scarring her lungs!

She remained in Great Ormond Street for around 4 months before she was allowed home!

After she had only been home a few weeks, Frankie started to have breathing difficulties and was again admitted to Great Ormond Street, where she had another life saving operation as the first one had failed to heal properly!

She has now been back at home for a few months and she seems to be on the mend, but just to be clear, due to this type of injury, Frankie will need further surgery at various times as she gets older, and her body grows!

Something that is maybe missed is how the family cope with this type of situation, basically their world was thrown into turmoil, for well over a year and all routine was thrown out the window.

Hayley (Frankie s Mum) has two other children, Finlay & Lilah, both school age, with Frankie being in hospital for long periods, it has meant Hayley has been away from home, so the other two kids have been without their mum as well!

With the help of their Gran, Auntie Lauren & Dad (Dion) and friends, everyone has been helping out! But as im sure you ll agree it is not an ideal situation, and has been a really stressful time for everyone!

One of the main issues during this time has obviously the extra financial strain, as Hayley is a house mum, then to say they have been overstretched is an understatement!
